Abstract:
The use and development of media and communication services has been changed radically by recent developments within broadcasting and internet / broadband technologies. A key example is the paradigm shift from radio & TV as we know it today to hybrid broadcast-broadband technologies, that opens up new paths as well as brings great challenges for both broadcasters and service users.

These years a new media landscape is thus emerging driven by: the shift to IP-based traffic; the ability to send and receive large amounts of data through 4G (broadband); the development of mobile terminals incl an increasing number of smartphones, tablets or other wireless internet enabled mobile devices; TV with touch screen, internet connection and processing power.

The new landscape with wireless television access allows you to choose what you want to watch when you want to watch.

Does this mean that broadcasting of radio and television as we know it will disappear? Who will decide on the media consumption? How can the media consumer be categorized and segmented? How will the behavior of mobile media consumers be? Which services may we expect are being used? What could a technical solution to the hybrid broadcast-broadband challenge look like?

A 40 million DKK research project - CAMMP - Converged Advanced Mobile Media Platform, which is funded by the High Technology Foundation - has studied the above issues and produced a technical solution to deal with the convergence. Does it display the answer to the future media landscape? Or does it simply set the framework for a new problematization? Do telecommunications and media have opposing political interests? How do we handle any contradictions of telecom and media policies?

The conference is organized in cooperation with CTiF Copenhagen, the CWMC project and the CAMMP project.
